#12/13 UK women’s basketball took on #14 LSU today in Memorial Coliseum and cruised to a 63-56 victory. Kentucky is now 17-5 and 5-4 in the SEC.
After switching up the lineup last week, Mitchell returned to his original 5 starting Janee Thompson, Kastine Evans, Bria Goss, DeNesha Stallworth and Samarie Walker; UK is 11-2 when using this lineup. UK started slow; falling behind 6-0, then went on a 13-0 run and didn’t trail again the remainder of the game. The first points for UK came from the free throw line as Thompson sank two. UK held the Tigers to just 23.1% from the field, a season low for an SEC opponent in the first half.

Mitchell said in his opening statement that his team had to do some “soul searching” and “change their attitude” to get this victory. “Great victory for us today. Really proud of the players, they did a lot of work between Friday afternoon when we met up for practice and this afternoon at Noon for the tip. They really worked hard and did a lot of soul searching and changed their attitude from Thursday night and that is not easy to do. Significant victory for us over a very, very good basketball team so I am really proud about this one.”
