On Sunday, millions of football fans are going to gather around the TV to watch the Denver Broncos and the Seattle Seahawks battle in the Super Bowl. For those that are drug to the Super Bowl parties, it’s not about the game, so they make a game over obsessing about the Super Bowl commercials. Well, I am here to save you a little bit of time. The best ad you will see this weekend, will not be one of the super bowl commercials, but this Kids Footlocker ad featuring the New Orleans Pelicans (and former Kentucky Wildcat) Anthony Davis.
Check it out here:
This ad has it all. A kid. Humor. And an appearance by the next big thing in the NBA.
Despite the recent and bewildering All Star snub, Anthony Davis is poised to be the face of the NBA when LeBron and the current crop of superstars head off into the sunset. On the court, he is already there and you can argue he is just paying his dues in the league until the All Star games are a regularity.
The reasons that Davis didn’t make the cut are obvious: He’s young, the 19-26 Pelicans aren’t good and there are tons of worthy candidates at his position. Equally obvious, though, is what an impressive season he’s having. Still just 20, Davis is averaging 20.4 points, 10.4 rebounds, a league-leading 3.3 blocks and 1.5 steals. In addition to leading his team in scoring, rebounding and blocks, Davis ranks in the league’s top five with a 26.8 PER and he’s a solid candidate for the Most Improved Player award.
All Star snub or not, look for Davis’s marketing star to rise as well.
And while this may not be one of the Super Bowl commercials, I guarantee you this is better than 90% of what you will see Sunday.
And maybe, next year, Davis will make the cut for the 2015 Super Bowl commercials roster.
