A cold start doesn’t even begin to describe how the Kentucky Wildcats looked in the opening minutes against the LSU Tigers. UK looked like they’d just come from the freezing weather outside that threatened to delay the game.

After falling behind 25-11, the Cats went from ice-cold to red-hot in their shooting as they went on a 16-2 run to get right back in the game.

James young keyed the run with his 12 points, but only six of them came from three-point range as he was looking to attack the rim more and work to get higher-percentage shots.

Eight first-half turnovers by UK helped LSU jump out to a big lead, but when the Cats were able to set their defense, the Tigers had a hard time getting any offense going.

At one point, LSU went nearly four minutes without scoring a point and nearly six minutes between field goals made.

But the Tigers were able to establish forwards Johnny O’Bryant III and Shavon Coleman in the paint against UK’s bigs, and those two combined for 23 of the Tigers’ 42 first-half points to put LSU ahead 42-36 at halftime.

In all, the Cats are lucky to not be trailing by more, but if they come out with another lackluster effort to start the second-half, they’re going to get run right out of the gym.
