With Thursday’s commitment of 3-star offensive tackle Josh Krok, the Kentucky Wildcats now have only two scholarships left to give out.

One of them is being held for 5-star defensive tackle Matt Elam, who’s expected to announce his college commitment on February 5, National Signing Day in college football.

Or so, that was the expectation, but according to John Hardin Coach Chad Lewis, he may actually announce his commitment next week:

“It’s not set in stone yet, but I feel like he’s going to possibly announce late in the week next week,” Lewis told the Herald-Leader.

Elam and his family took an official visit trip last weekend to Bama and spent time with Alabama Coach Nick Saban, who’s put the full-court press on Elam over the past month after it appeared Elam was set to commit to UK during the Army All-American game.

Assistant coaches from both schools were in Hardin County on Wednesday, and Elam is expected to be in attendance for an unofficial visit Saturday for the UK vs. Georgia basketball game.

“Neither staff is really throwing much of a sales pitch at this point,” Lewis said. “Matt knows what they are. He’s been on visits to both of them on numerous occasions. And it’s really just trying to keep that contact with him and recruit until the very end. The salesmanship, so to speak, is really over at this point.”
