Vanderbilt's James Franklin heading to Penn State

Vanderbilt Commodores head coach James Franklin is expected to be the next head football coach at Penn State, who is expecter to announce the hiring this afternoon. The first to report the hire was CBSSports.com’s Bruce Feldman:

Franklin is a Pennsylvania native and was though to be PSU’s top target all along. He has become one of the hottest coaching names with his success with the Commodores, winning 24 games over the past three seasons.

He’s led Vanderbilt to bowl games in all three of his seasons and posted back-to-back bowl victories, both firsts in school history. He also helped Vandy finish each of the past two season in the top-25.

With his departure, that opens up an easier path for the Kentucky Wildcats to get to six wins and back to the postseason. They could also both be in the mix for 4-star defensive end Lloyd Tubman, a Louisville native, who’s expected to decommit from Vanderbilt once James Franklin officially leaves.
