Kentucky Wildcats Women's Basketball Climbs Into The Top Five

At 8-0 and fresh off a win against #4 Louisville Cardinals, the Kentucky Wildcats Hoops team is flying high. In fact, they are flying so high that they have just cracked the top five. In the newly released AP Poll, the Kentucky Hoops team are ranked at #5 in the country heading into their Friday night matchup with #9 Baylor in Dallas, TX. After failing to make it past the Elite Eight the last two seasons, Matthew Mitchell has decided to stack the schedule in hopes of preparing his team better. After all, you have got to beat the best to be the best. With the said, the Kentucky passed their first of many tests on Sunday afternoon when they rallied to beat the ten #4 Louisville Cardinals by a final score of 69-64. With no time to rest, they take on the #9 Baylor Bears in Dallas, TX on Friday evening. While that may seem tough in and of itself, it is not the end of this hoops team tough schedule by any means. They will face the #2 Duke Blue Devils on December 22, #12 South Carolina Gamecocks on January 9, #19 Georgia Bulldogs on January 30, #13 LSU Tigers on February 2, #3 Tennessee Volunteers on February 16, #12 South Carolina Gamecocks again on February 20, and #23 Texas A&M Aggies on February 23. For those of you counting, that is NINE total games against teams currently ranked in the AP Poll. That is a tall order for any team, but one that this Kentucky Hoops team can certainly handle.

Looking at who Kentucky has played thus far, it is clear that they are good and relentless. While the competition will stiffen up and get significantly more difficult, it is not possible to argure with the results that have come in thus far. Take a look below:
@ Marist- W 75-61
@ Wagner- W 96-57
vs Georgia Southern- W 103-38
vs Central Michigan- W 96-74
vs Lipscomb- W 116-49
@ Middle Tennessee- W 84-72
vs Bradley- W 117-77
vs #4 Louisville- W 69-64

That is an average score of 94.5-61.5. This is good for a 33 point victory…ON AVERAGE! This team, as every Matthew Mitchell coached team, is based on constant pressure defense. That being said, this years Kentucky Hoops team is forcing an average of 26.5 turnovers a game. To break that down, this Kentucky team is getting a turnover once every 1.5 minutes of play. If they can keep this pressure defense up and play with the intensity that they have so far, this could very well be the year that they break through to the Final Four and, dare I say, win a championship?
