With the 2014 football recruiting class coming to an end in the next few months, the Kentucky coaching staff is looking to fill three more spots. It looks as though Kentucky will sign 28 total players this year to go along with the recruits they signed last year.
There has been a lot of speculation as to who Kentucky will get to fill the remaining spots. Most believe Kentucky is holding a spot for 4 star defensive tackle Matt Elam. I won’t say I believe they are holding a spot for him, I know they are holding a spot. Matt would top off this class nicely and would fill a much needed space on the defensive side of the ball. Matt is a beast, standing 6’6” and well over 300lbs. Matt had an in-home visit with UK coaches Sunday night. In attendance was Neal Brown, Vince Marrow and the entire defensive staff. They are showing Matt a lot of love and letting him know how much they want him. The staff feels like they are in a good position with him but they will not let up until he signs his letter of intent. Alabama is pushing hard and trying to sway him their way and there is a lot of interest on Matt’s part. Let’s keep our fingers crossed here. IF Kentucky doesn’t get Elam, they will push hard for Jarran Reed (a player they recruited last year, still in JUCO) or Daniel Ross (a Louisville native once committed to Kentucky but had to go JUCO). Kentucky needs to stay in contact with both of these guys.
So, that’s one spot. Another spot is believed to be open for an offensive lineman. There have been rumors that long-time Ohio State commit, Marcelys Jones may de-commit from OSU and commit to Kentucky. Vince Marrow has been on him for quite a while and these rumors have been circulating for months. Marcelys is a highly ranked 4 star commit that Kentucky would love to have.
The last spot will be open to the next best player or athlete at any position. Most speculate that it could be someone like, athletes Marshon Lattimore or a T.J. Harrell but as of last night a familiar name has come up. Dominique Booth de-committed from Tennessee and it has been rumored that he reached out to the Kentucky coaching staff. Dominique is a 4 star wide receiver from Indiana who is rated as the 33rd best WR in this class. He has an impressive offer sheet including top programs like, Alabama, Texas A&M, Missouri, Florida State and Michigan State to name a few. Some say Kentucky shouldn’t take him due to the fact that they already have 5 receivers but I say when you have a chance at an athlete like that you take him, no matter what. If for some reason you lose someone due to de-commitment or grades, it doesn’t hurt so much. Watch Booth’s Junior highlights in the video below.
