I’m thankful for the University of Kentucky’s shade of blue.  It’s bold and powerful and is much easier on the eyes and that pale shade that North Carolina sports. I’m thankful for “On, On, UofK.” I’m thankful that my favorite colors are Blue and White. I’m thankful for the interlocking “UK.” And I’m old enough to be thankful for the simple block “K.”

I’m thankful for Rupp Arena.  I’m thankful for the 129 game home court winning streak. I’m thankful for Memorial Coliseum. I’m thankful for Alumni Gym. I’m thankful for Stoll Field. I’m thankful for Commonwealth Stadium.

I’m thankful for Adolph Rupp. I’m thankful for his brown suits. I’m thankful for his high standards.  I’m thankful for Joe B. Hall. I’m thankful For Eddie Sutton. I’m thankful for “Little Brother.” I’m thankful that AD C.M. Newton hired the NY Knicks head basketball coach. I’m thankful for returning to glory. I’m thankful for Tubby Smith.  And I’m thankful for Billy G, if for nothing else than to show that being the head men’s basketball coach at the University of Kentucky isn’t for everyone. I’m thankful for John Calipari. I’m thankful, not for moving the needle, but for being the needle. I’m thankful for not playing basketball, but for being college basketball.

I’m thankful for Bear Bryant. I’m thankful for Fran Curci. I’m thankful for Tim Couch. I’m thankful for Derek Ramsey. I’m thankful for Matt Roark leading the Cats and finally ending The Streak against Tennessee.  I’m thankful that for one night in 1997 and another in 2007, the Wildcats showed that they can beat the SEC big boys at football. I’m thankful for Mark Stoops.

I’m thankful for Kyle Macy’s socks. I’m thankful for Kenny Walker walking the sky. I’m thankful for Bowie and Turpin. I’m thankful for Hayes and Daniels.  I’m thankful that Antoine Walker decided that shooting the ball 20 times a game wasn’t worth sacrificing a run at the national championship. I’m thankful for Travis Ford. I’m thankful for Todd Svoboda.

I’m thankful for Deron Feldhaus. For John Pelfrey. For Richie Farmer. For Sean Woods.

I’m thankful for the Unforgettables.

I’m thankful for Papa Rich Brooks.

I’m thankful for Christian Laettner. And the Bluegrass Miracle. I’m thankful that only when something means that much to you can it it hurt that bad. I’m thankful for real tears, both of joy and of heartbreak.

I’m thankful for Cawood Ledford. I’m thankful for Bill Keightley. I’m thankful for Tom Leach.

I’m thankful for 1948. 1949. 1951. 1958. 1978. 1996. 1998. 2012.

I’m thankful for that 1976 Football team. I’m thankful for Air Raid.

I’m thankful for the Mardi Gras Miracle. I’m thankful for Brassow in Maui.

I’m thankful for Tony Delk’s jumpshot. I’m thankful for Anthony Davis’ brow. I’m thankful for Michael Kidd-Gilchrist’s smile, his heart and his hustle. I’m thankful that Chuck Hayes didn’t want to take off his jersey in 2005. I’m thankful that Joe Crawford gave everything he had in 2009.  I’m thankful that Tayshaun hit five threes. I’m thankful Cedric Jenkins is that tall.  I’m thankful that the Goose was indeed Golden. I’m thankful for Jeff Sheppard. I’m thankful for Patrick Sparks. I’m thankful for the University of Jodie Meeks.
