KENTUCKY LEADS SERIES 1-0

LAST MEETING
1/2/2013: KENTUCKY 90 Eastern Michigan 38

The Keightley Classic concludes today and although it was not planned this way, this would be a true championship for the event. Both Kentucky and Eastern Michigan are 3-0 against their common opponents in the Classic, so let’s just look at that first.

ROBERT MORRIS
EMU 69-64, UK 87-49

CLEVELAND STATE
EMU 81-69, UK 68-61

TEXAS ARLINGTON
EMU 74-69, UK 105-76

This is the Eagles’ second trip to Rupp Arena this year. UK demolished them 90-38 on January 2, but this is a whole new cast for UK and pretty much the same old Eastern Michigan team. Despite that, this should be a good opponent for UK.

Eagles coach Rob Moore is a Jim Boeheim disciple, so expect to see plenty of zone and attempts to force Kentucky to exist solely from long-range. It did not work last year, and with Kentucky better all around, it should not this year.

That said, this game is the Wednesday before Thanksgiving get out-of-town game which has led to some sloppy UK basketball in the past. In addition, the Eagles, at 5-0, are ranked in the Mid Major Top 25 (@ #25) for the first time ever and are looking for a “shock the world” moment. That is why they play the games, so let’s meet the Eagles.
