2009: KENTUCKY 94 UNC Asheville 57
Enough with the talk and hype. The 2013-14 college basketball season is almost underway and Kentucky’s first obstacle to 40-0 will be the UNC Arlington Bulldogs. The Bulldogs reside in the Big South Conference and went 16-16 last season. The Bulldogs return just two starters from that team and like Kentucky, will be trying to assimilate almost a whole new team. Also new for the Bulldogs is head coach Nick McDevitt, who has the unique experience of coaching his very first game in his career at Rupp Arena. McDevitt is just 34 and is a former PG for the Bulldogs.
UNC Asheville is one of the schools that fund part of their athletics budget by becoming “rent a wins”, so they certainly will not play scared in Rupp. Last years team was very respectable in a 75-68 loss to Tennessee, 82-80 loss at then #16th ranked NC State, and a 90-72 loss at then #7 Ohio State. That was last year however, and McDevitt has some holes to fill with this team. To start with, he lost nearly 33 points a game in Heremy Atkinson and Keith Hornsby.
Who will step up for the Bulldogs? Let’s meet them.
