Kentucky Wildcats prevail over Transylvania Pioneers, 76-42

In the first (unofficial) game of the 2013-14 season, the Cats were able to run away with the game early in the second half after a close first half. Kentucky defeated Transy 76-42 in this year’s edition of the “Battle on Broadway”. Julius Randle led Kentucky with a double-double (16 points, 12 rebounds) and was also the only Kentucky player to score in double digits. James Young, Alex Poythress, and Willie Cauley-Stein combined for 25 points and 13 rebounds.

The Cats were able to escape in the second half after only maintaining an 11 point lead at half time. UK improved from 43% shooting in the first half to 57% in the second half, while they were able to hold Transy to 16% in the second half. Dakari Johnson also chipped in with nine points and eight rebounds in a well-balanced offensive game for UK. Transy was led by freshman guard Trevor Tillor, who racked up 11 points and eight rebounds for the Pioneers.
