Ever since Big Blue Madness last Friday people went away from the event wondering what kind of impact the event had on the recruiting front for Kentucky basketball, and not a lot of news has came out except for the normal “BBN was crazy” and “I had a great visit in Lexington.”
James Blackmon Jr. is the one that I think makes his decision first out of Trey Lyles, and Stanley Johnson, and I think as of today it will be Kentucky. Blackmon made it official yesterday on his twitter that he would make his last visit to Indiana this weekend, and will make a decision after that. I talked to a source after the news broke yesterday, and he said he thought it was a “courtesy visit” but nobody knows for sure. A decision for Blackmon could happen by the end of next week.
Trey Lyles has always been very quiet in his recruitment, and nothing has changed, but he did have a great time at Big Blue Madness, and I know this because I was sitting right across from him at the event. Lyles couldn’t stop smiling, and while Calipari was giving his speech he had his eyes locked on him the whole time. I keep seeing people say they expect a decision for him very soon, but his father said he may not even sign in the fall, and could wait until the spring. I also think Lyles is Kentucky bound, but we have a while till he makes his decision in my opinion.
Stanley Johnson was without a doubt the most important recruit at Big Blue Madness, and he had an interview with Eric Bossi of rivals.com saying that he was going to wait to make a decision because he didn’t want to make a decision based of a visit. That’s very smart, and that tells me he could be making a buisness decision instead of a emotional one. Spring will be the time he makes his decision it sounds like. USC will get a visit coming up next month, and they are a legit contender to Arizona, and Kentucky.
I hope a week from now I can write about Kentucky’s next piece to the 2014 class, but this class is very weird, and has had plenty of shockers.
