Kentucky Wildcat fans rejoice! It has been a long offseason of ever-building anticipation for the upcoming season. After last years debacle, losing to Robert Morris in the first round of the NIT, you all immediately turned your attention to this coming season. And rightfully so. With the number one class in the nation coming in (one which included the number 2, 5, 7, 9, 11, and 19 overall prospects), there was reason to be excited. Many herald this class to be the best freshman class ever, even better than the famous Fab Five. While nothing has been played out yet, it is hard not to imagine the possibilities.
As I have written before, this years team is HUGE! There are TEN players on the roster that stand at least 6’6″. Out of those players, an outrageous EIGHT of them have a chance to go to the NBA…after this season! With this kind of size and talent, there are not many teams that should be able to hang with this year’s version of the Wildcats. Throw in the fact that Calipari has said this group is the most athletic group he has seen, and you have a recipe for something special. Now, I am not saying that they will run the table and go 40-0. I am saying, however, that this team should not lose to anyone except themselves. If they lose this season (and yes…that is an if), then it will be because they did not play to their potential.
So fans…sit back, relax, and enjoy the show. It should be a fast-paced, high-flying, dominate display of basketball. One that could challenge any team in the world, except the NBA. Of course, even that would be a fun game to watch. Seeing on how it is likely that up to eight players off of this team could join the NBA for next season, there is no reason to think i couldn’t be done in the right setting. Regardless of this, folks, there is one fact that matters right now. There are nine more days until the games begin…which means there are nine more days to the world is introduced to what may be the GREATEST team in college basketball history. The time is now…the time for NINE!
