The Kentucky Wildcats haven’t had many offensive playmakers grace their program since Randall Cobb left for greener pastures, but true freshman Ryan Timmons is looking to change that trend. The former Franklin County start has been a go-to option for the Cats this year, and he was named to the College Football Awards Freshman Performer of the Year Watch list today.
He is currently second in receiving with 19 catches for 209 yards and one touchdown and fourth in rushing with eight carries for 88 yards. He’s also averaging 11 yards per reception or rush attempt and scored his first collegiate touchdown last weekend against South Carolina on a 14-yard touchdown pass in the corner of the endzone.
Timmons is one of 32 FBS players and one of four SEC players to make the watch list. he watch list is a rough guide, highlighting freshmen whose performances merit recognition.
Timmons hopes his performance at South Carolina will help propel him to another big game against the Alabama Crimson Tide:
“(The finish gave us) a lot of encouragement for next week, you know we have a great team coming in Alabama next weekend, but I think this game gave us a lot of confidence,” he said. “It’s a great crowd, you know, a lot of great defense and this is a great team that we play.
“I think this is going to help us build to get ready for another great team next week.”
