So, right at the beginning we find out that ultra athlete Jadeveon Clowney was out of this game due to a minor injury. But that was of little consequence to Kentucky’s defense. South Carolina marched down field in under two minutes in just three plays. On the third play of the drive, Conner Shaw through a Sixty-two yard pass to Damiere Byrd for a touchdown.
On Kentucky’s first possession (with Jalen Whitlow Starting at Quarter Back), they ran 4 plays before giving the ball back on a fourth down punt.
On South Carolina’s second possession, they again went down field with little trouble in 10 plays and 80 yards, ending in a Mike Davis twenty-two yard touchdown.
On Kentucky’s second possession, they had a third and one to pick up, which they did, only to have it called back for an illegal formation call. It was third and five, Whitlow dropped back to pass, couldn’t find anyone open and ultimately ended up getting sacked.
On South Carolina’s third possession, they again moved the ball with a good mix of run/pass and as the quarter ended, they were at a first and goal.
