Kelly Oubre is a name that popped up on the Kentucky fans radar about two weeks ago when recruiting analyst Jeff Borzello said that he thinks Kentucky is the leader with Kansas a close second. Is that breaking news? No, because that’s the only two official visits that Oubre has booked, but was shocking was that he thinks Kentucky is the leader after so many people had him as a Kansas lock.
Oubre is kind of a late bloomer for the class of 2014, and he has climbed the rankings from the mid 40’s to now almost top 10 in every major recruiting ranking.
Kansas got the 1st visit, and it was today. Oubre tweeted earlier “Wheels down in Lawrence” earlier today. Kansas, and Coach Bill Self are the only ones in the country that I would say can recruit like Kentucky. That was shown last season when #1 player in the country Andrew Wiggins shocked the nation, and chose Kansas over Kentucky, North Carolina, and Florida State.
Kansas is a great place to play basketball, and the atmosphere is one a kind, but Oubre will feel something else when he takes his official visit to Kentucky on October 18th for Big Blue Madness.
I talked to a source today, and he said that “Big Blue Madness is a huge recruiting tool for Kentucky, and nobody can do it better so getting Oubre down there will definitely improve Kentucky’s chances” I also asked him if he agreed with the momentum Kentucky is picking up, and he said “Absolutely, and the main reason may be is that Kansas is the leader for Cliff Alexander, and probably for Myles Turner.”
I think Kentucky has a great shot at landing Oubre, but I will not say its certain as this 2014 class has already had some shockers, but I do like Kentucky’s chances. Reason being is because of instant playing time on the wing that will be available after Young, and the Twins most likely turn pro after the season.
I’ll be on vacation for the next week, but if I hear anything about the Kansas visit I will let you guys know.
