Louisville’s Rick Pitino had some kind words to say about Kentucky Basketball’s current class of players in the program. “Best recruiting class in 20 years,”said Pitino to SNY.tv by text. However, he wasn’t ready to give Kentucky dominion over Louisville just yet. In regards to the Wildcats being the preseason No. 1, Pitino said, “As far as No. 1, I’m not sure.”
Louisville is ranked No. 3 in the 2013-104 preseason polls and the Cardinals and Wildcats are certainly top contenders to win the national championship. They could certainly face each other in the NCAA Tournament before it’s all said and done. These two teams could be evenly matched as Louisville is returning multiple experienced players while Kentucky is loaded with talented freshman and will return some important players from last year.
The highly recruited players of Kentucky are expected to do well in next year’s NBA Draft as well. Freshman forward Julius Randle is projected as the No. 2 pick next year. He is followed by freshman point guard Andrew Harrison at No. 8, sophomore center Willie Cauley-Stein at No. 16, and sophomore forward Alex Poythress at No. 28. Freshmen Aaron Harrison, Dakari Johnson, and James Young are expected to go 21-13 in 2015.
Kentucky will host Louisville on December 28, 2013 for a highly anticipated regular season matchup.
