Connor Shaw could play this week vs Kentucky Wildcats

The South Carolina Gamecocks thought they were losing their starting quarterback for up to a month when Connor Shaw was forced from Saturday’s win over UCF, but after watching him practice this week, USC coaches and trainers believe now he may be able to play this week vs the Kentucky Wildcats:

“The trainer had him out two-to-three weeks. Yesterday, he threw a ball 60 yards. So… I don’t know,” Head Coach Steve Spurrier said Tuesday. “You need to ask the trainer how he made such a miraculous recovery. It wasn’t 60, but it was about 55, I would say.”

Plenty far enough to give Spurrier a decision to make. The Gamecocks probably won’t decide if Shaw or junior Dylan Thompson will start against the Wildcats until Thursday, Spurrier said.

“Looks like (Shaw) is going to be healthy now and able to play,” Spurrier said. “He obviously must have a lot of pain with the hit last game, because when he came off the field it looked like he was out for the season maybe.”

Shaw is 49/76 for 665 yards, six touchdowns and no interceptions this season. If he cannot play, Dylan Thompson will get the start.
