Kentucky Wildcats Basketball Recruiting: Get to know 2014 Kentucky recruit Kelly Oubre

Kelly Oubre

6-7, 190 Class of 2014

Fort Bend, Texas

Findley College Prep

Small Forward

Kelly Oubre is one of those guys that has been climbing in the rankings since hitting the national stage this past summer, and some recruiting websites have him in the top 5. ESPN has him #20 in the class of 2014, and thats the lowest I have seen him in the rankings. Kentucky fans probably are just now getting familiar with Oubre as it broke on Tuesday night from CBS’s Jeff Borzello that Kentucky may be the leader over Kansas.

While nobody knows if thats true Kentucky is very strong in this recruitment, and it wouldn’t surprise me if they landed him for the 2014 class. I just wanted to give a slight overview of his game, along with his strengths, and weaknesses that he presents.

Strengths:He’s a quick and increasingly aggressive slasher . He’s especially fond of baseline drives, and his ability to get above defenders results in numerous fouls along with and-ones. He’s also a pretty good shooter. Not great, but pretty good. His leaping ability has improved significantly, and he’s able to climb the offensive glass for putbacks and tip-dunks. He excels defensively as well.

Weaknesses: The only weakness that I can really give him is his shot selection at times, but don’t take that in a bad way. He’s a great shooter, but sometimes he gets trigger happy.

Offers: Kentucky, Kansas, Louisville, UCONN, Georgetown, UNLV, Florida, and Oregon. The ones that have the best shot are clearly Kansas, and Kentucky.

Oubre only has two visits scheduled as of now, and they are Kansas on October 4th, and Kentucky for Midnight Madness on October 18th.

Also as you can tell from the picture above he has without a doubt the best hair in the class of 2014!!!
