Marian Catholic High (Ill.) point guard Tyler Ulis is one of the top point guard prospects remaining on the board in the 2014 class, and after it looked like he was Michigan State-bound just one month ago, the Kentucky Wildcats swooped in and nabbed his commitment tonight.
Ulis, a top-30 prospect nationally, announced his college choice live on High School Cube News, right before Marian Catholic’s football team hosts Carmel. The 5-foot-9, 160-pound player for Marian Catholic HS officially visited UK on Sunday and Monday, including for the Wildcats’ alumni game, and was at Michigan State on Friday. He visited Iowa the weekend before that. Those three schools were his finalists.
Ulis is ranked as the nation’s No. 6 point guard and No. 29 prospect by Scout.com. 247Sports.com ranks Ulis the No. 12 point guard and No. 52 player nationally in 2014. Rivals.com ranks Ulis No. 33 nationally.
The recruitment of Ulis took a drastic turn recently when he received a scholarship offer from John Calipari, who offered Ulis last month during an unofficial visit to Lexington. His last visit was to UK during their annual Alumni Game on Monday, and the Cats are viewed as the favorites for Ulis.
Our own Joshua Kays had the privilege of speaking with USA Today’s Jason Jordan yesterday about Tyler’s decision, and also one of his best friends Devin Booker who is another UK target for the class of 2014. Make sure you give it a read.
