Charlie Strong brings his Louisville Cardinals into Commonwealth Stadium tomorrow for the 23rd meeting in this series. That is significant as both sides, UK and UL have 11 wins each, so to the victor goes the bragging rights. The series, as expected, has been remarkably close, with both teams owning a winning record on the other teams home field. UK is 6-7 in Lexington versus UL and is 5-4 away from home. This series has been an annual game since 1994 and UL leads 11-8 since then. UK is 4-7 at Commonwealth versus the Cardinals, but with a new coach and culture at UK, hopefully it is time for things to change.

Kentucky finally showed signs of life last week with 675 yards offensively versus Miami of Ohio. Louisville has cruised this season and has not been tested versus Ohio and Eastern Kentucky. THe big knock on the Cardinals this year will be their weak schedule and with Kentucky being a SEC school, Louisville will have plenty of inspiration to blow the Wildcats off the field. A loss to Kentucky or even a closer than expected game could damage Louisville’s national title hopes. The Wildcats on the other hand will not be uptight and seemingly have nothing to lose. If UK plays like they did versus Miami, it could be an interesting game. If they play like they did versus Western Kentucky, it could be a very long day for the home team.

There is no need for further introductions. Let’s meet the Cardinals.
