Is it Saturday yet? It has been 277 days since the Kentucky Wildcats left the field at Neyland Stadium with a 37-17 defeat and a 2-10 record on their hands. With uncertainty surrounding the future direction of the program, the answer officially came three days later when Mark Stoops was named the 37th head coach of the University of Kentucky football program. Much has changed in those 274 days. Mark has hired a young, fiery, innovative staff to surround him and they hit the ground running on the recruiting trail, landing a top-30 incoming class in just a little over two months on the job. One of Mark’s hired assistants, offensive coordinator Neal Brown, returns to his home state to bring back the “glory days” of the Hal Mumme era, the Air Raid offense. The fan excitement surrounding the change in the program was never more evident when a school record 50,000-plus fans showed up for the Spring Game. The future is looking bright for the University of Kentucky football program and, luckily for us, the future is only three days away. To return to my Inside The Numbers posts, I’ve compiled a list of dates to remember, anniversaries to remember, and player milestones to look forward to this season.
