Kentucky Wildcats Football: Matt Elam to take official visit to UK 12/14

Things continue to look like they are falling nicely into place for Mark Stoops and his chances of landing behemoth tackle Matt Elam of Elizabethtown. Elam tweeted today that he had set the date of December 14th as his official visit to UK. The date is kind of odd considering that Kentucky’s football season is over and the basketball Wildcats play at North Carolina. But maybe it’s a positive that Elam does not need a “big event” to draw him to campus. This announcement comes on the heels of Elams tweet that he had set a date to visit Notre Dame.

Keep in mind that Elam is down to a final six of Kentucky, Alabama, Ohio State, Louisville, Tennessee, and Notre Dame so getting an official visit this early in Elam’s process is huge. It also means that one of the preceding teams may get cut soon, unless Elam takes an unofficial to Louisville, which is possible.

While Kentucky is going up against some college football heavyweights in the pursuit of Elam and he will witness some true heavyweight game day action, Kentucky offers something that the other schools can not. Elam is a Kentucky boy and seems to feel the desire to be the home state hero that can help drag Kentucky from the ashes. Fellow Kentuckian Drew Barker has answered the call and he and Elam seem to have the relationship of future teammates. It’s for this reason that I think Elam will be a Wildcat.

Earlier this week, Barker said this on Twitter when Elam “joked” about being a Vol:
