JUCO Receiver Joey Herrick joins Kentucky Wildcats

While at the Kentucky Wildcats media day today, UK Wide Receivers Coach Tommy Mainord revealed live on Kentucky Sports Radio that they’ve added JUCO receiver Joey Herrick to the team. Herrick also confirmed this via Twitter today.

Herrick is a sophomore receiver from Dripping Springs, Texas, and played last year at Kilgore College alongside fellow UK player Steven Borden. With the lack of experience at the WR position, it’s no surprise to see the coaches add a player who might be more ready to contribute immediately than the true freshman receivers.

Rivals.com had a brief story on Herrick this summer about his upcoming season:

"At 6-foot-1 and 195 pounds, Herrick did a lot of nice things in finishing with 30 catches for 292 yards (9.7 ypc) and two scores as a freshman a season ago. He was the top freshman receiver on the team, with the two sophomores in front of him catching close to 100 balls for the season."

Here’s his bio via ncsasports.org

"My name is Joe Herrick, I am a starting freshman receiver at Kilgore junior college. We went 8-2 in one of the hardest juco conferences in the nation. I have 3 touchdowns, with 30 catches for 300 yards. I’m an automatic qualifier out of high school with a current GPA of 3.4. We played in the Brazos Valley Bowl game at Kyle field on December 1st against Northwestern Mississippi, we are ranked #11 in the nation and they are #13. In the bowl game I had five catches for 78 yards and 1 touchdown. In high school I had 1200 receiving yards and 27 average yards per catch with 18 touchdowns my senior year."
