New York Knicks Give Former Wildcat Eloy Vargas A Shot

Mar 22, 2012; Atlanta, GA, USA; Kentucky Wildcats forward Eloy Vargas during practice the day before the semifinals of the south region of the 2012 NCAA men

After veterans Rasheed Wallace and Kurt Thomas announced their retirements, the Knicks are in need for some youth in their front court. So New York turned to former Wildcat Eloy Vargas who is giving them good minutes in this years summer league. The former cat is averaging 5.6 ppg, 3.8 rpg and shooting almost 50 % from the field. Sure these aren’t the glamorous stats we’re seeing from other former Kentucky bigmen but he is getting his name out there for teams to see his skill level as a 6’11″ post player that are so valuable this day and age in the NBA. Many players who were mediocre in college find themselves in the situation that Vargas is in where they go overseas and wait on there name to be called to tryout for a team or get picked up. Vargas’s time is now and hopefully he will keep it up and be an option for them, if not now, maybe in the future.
