The continuing theme of Kentucky Football’s journey to a top five class has been the solid staff Mark Stoops has put into place and the fact that other top recruits are talking Kentucky football to other recruits. Seems that formula is part of what brought former Pitt transfers Chris and Demitirious Davis to Kentucky.

"Two long-time family connections were pivotal in helping twins Chris and Demitrious Davis of Autintown, Ohio, decide to transfer to Kentucky after spending one year playing football at Pittsburgh. The twins’ father, Chris, has a long relationship with UK assistant coach Vince Marrow — and also knew plenty about UK head coach Mark Stoops. The brothers also knew running back Braylon Heard, another Ohio standout who recently transferred from Nebraska to Kentucky. “I have known coach Marrow my whole life,” Chris Davis, the father, said. “We are both from the same area and me and one of his younger brothers used to hang out and be tight. Even when Vince played in Buffalo (in the NFL), we would go to see games. We’ve always known each other. I just had a good feel about him and coach Stoops. Both are such good m en. “When I was going through this with the kids, I wanted somebody that would coach them and yell or do whatever it takes to make them better. I believe the coach, I believe the teacher before my sons. I want them to be coached hard. But I also wants somebody who cares about them and I know coach Stoops and coach Marrow will do that.” The Davis family was evaluating the effective recruiting job the UK staff was doing and Heard was considering a transfer to either Pittsburgh or Kentucky about the time the twins decided to leave Pitt. “I told Braylen a lot of stuff going on at Pitt and told him I would choose Kentucky,” Chris Davis said. “Shortly after that, the boys were packing their bags and going that route also. I just believe in the UK staff and moving forward.” The twins had been recruited by both Florida State and Nebraska coming out of high school when they were ranked among the nation’s top athletes by Rivals.com. The picked Pittsburgh, but then the offense they expected to be part of never materialized."

Matt Elam is probably Mark Stoops biggest target in the 2014 class, but Justin Rowlands from Rivals tells us that Kentucky is surging with another big DT in the 2014 class.

"Mark Stoops and his defensive coordinator D.J. Eliot want, perhaps more than anything, to build a deep, athletic and powerful defensive line that can hold up in the trenches in the Southeastern Conference. To that end Kentucky has addressed the front four very well, both with a talent crop of incoming freshman and an impressive trio of commitments from the Class of 2014. But they’re not done yet. Of course the Wildcats are waiting on Matt Elam, but they’re also surging with four-star defensive tackle Cory Johnson. Johnson, a 6-foot-3, 295-pound tackle from ASA College in New York, also has offers from Arizona State, Miami, NC State, Rutgers, Syracuse, Temple and Tennessee. Recently he said Miami was his favorite with Kentucky in second place on his list behind the Hurricanes. His interest in UK is largely because of the fact that UK has made him a big priority and made him feel wanted. “Oh yeah, I talk (to Kentucky) all the time,” Johnson told Cats Illustrated this weekend"
