Kentucky will once again host the biggest NASCAR event of the year, the Sprint Cup Series’ Quaker State 400. The race will be held at the Kentucky Speedway in Sparta, Kentucky and will honor the University of Kentucky and the University of Louisville basketball programs.
It was announced last week that Brian Vickers’ car will be painted to honor the 2013 national champion Cardinals. Then, it was announced this Wednesday that Kentucky coach John Calipari will drive the pace car for the race. Calipari will be driving a Ford Fusion when the race gets underway.
This event seems like a great experience for Calipari and a great way to represent the top basketball programs that are beloved in Kentucky. The citizens of Kentucky share tremendous pride and love for the great traditions that the state has. And the Kentucky Speedway is one of them.
Even if you aren’t a NASCAR fan, I’m sure Calipari will be entertaining to see driving the pace car and make it worth tuning in to. The Sprint Cup Series’ Quaker State 400 will begin at 7:30 p.m. ET on Saturday, June 29, 2013.
