#40 Avery Williamson, MLB

Hometown: Milan, Tenn.

High School: Milan

Height / Weight: 6-1/241


In high school, Williamson was a labeled as a first-team all-state (AAA) linebacker in Tennessee. He led his team to consecutive 14-1 seasons and an appearance in the state championship, with the only loss against powerhouse Alcoa, Randall Cobb’s alma mater. Williamson made 125 tackles with one interception during the regular season in his senior year, and recorded 119 tackles as a junior with 21 for loss.  He also played fullback his senior season, rushing for 416 yards and seven touchdowns.


Williamson is one of the impact players that the Cats will rely on defensively. As a returning starter with three seasons of experience, the team will depends on him to get the job done. He finished second in the SEC with 135 tackles in 2012, and finished seventh nationally. In his sophomore year he played in all 12 games and finished with 49 tackles, despite not starting. Williamson played in all 13 games his freshman season, recording 10 tackles.
