Orlando Antigua named Dominican Republic Head Coach


 

University of Kentucky assistant coach, Orlando Antigua was named the Dominican Republic national team head coach this morning.

Antigua previously served as the DR assistant coach to John Calipari. During that time, the two Kentucky coaches led the squad to a third place finish in the 2011 FIBA Americas Championship and fourth in the 2012 FIBA World Olympic Qualifying Tournament, one shy of qualifying for the 2012 Olympic Basketball Tournament for the first time in the countries history, falling to Nigeria.

The1998 DR squad also came close to representing the country in the Olympics and World championships, that team Antigua led as well, yet on the floor as he was a player.
