The 2013 NBA draft lottery took place earlier tonight and the lottery order of picks are now official. The coveted first pick of the draft will belong to the Cleveland Cavaliers. This is now the second time in three years that the Cavaliers have won the first pick of the draft. The Orlando Magic were awarded the second pick, while the third pick of the draft will belong to the Washington Wizards.
It is expected by many analysts that either Nerlens Noel or Ben McLemore will be selected with the first pick. McLemore is an excellent shooter that plays more of a guard position. Since the Cavaliers already have two exceptional guards in Kyrie Irving and Dion Waiters, it would make more sense for them to take a low post threat in Noel. Noel is a great defender that can get multiple blocks and create turnovers with his amazing length. He isn’t as well developed offensively, but has potential to develop on that end. Nick Gilbert, son of Cavaliers’ owner Dan Gilbert, said he thinks the Cavaliers will make a push for the playoffs next year. That’s a bold statement, but Noel has the potential to come into that organization and be a key factor in helping them get there.
There are several talented prospects in this year’s draft and it will be interesting to see where and when each player goes. The 2013 NBA draft will take place on Thursday, June 27th.
