Last year the Kentucky men’s soccer team enjoyed their first hosting berth in the NCAA Tournament since 2003, led by first year head coach Johan Cedergren. Coach Cedergren announced on Tuesday afternoon that the men’s soccer team will open a new stadium in 2013 with 11 home games.
In Cedergren’s first season, the Wildcats went 10-9-2, including finishing the regular season with a No. 25 NCAA RPI.
UK will open with a two-match exhibition scheduled for Aug. 20 vs. Dayton in Lexington at 7 p.m. ET and will begin the regular season with a 7:30 p.m. ET match with Wright State on Aug. 30th. Both matchups will be played at the new state-of-the-art UK Soccer Complex.
The new Soccer Complex upgrades will include a new grandstand, new locker room, lounge, training facility and game day offices underneath the new grandstand, with the press box designed to serve the needs of the media, television and radio broadcasts, and suites.

The University of Kentucky women’s soccer team is coming off its most-successful season under the direction of 5th year head coach Jon Lipsitz, as UK got the program’s first-ever NCAA Tournament win in a 1-0 decision over UT Martin in overtime in the opening round.
On Sunday, Aug. 25, Kentucky will begin a new era as the women open the newly-renovated UK Soccer Complex.
“It is going to be extremely exciting to open up our new stadium for the 2013 season,” Lipsitz said. “We know there has been a lot of hard work being put into making this stadium the best-possible place for our student-athletes to grow and achieve their goals, as well as making this the most fan-friendly environment in our league. We can’t wait to showcase it on a national stage this fall.”
