Today Kentucky picked up their fourth commitment of the 2014 class when Ohio tight end Darryl Long announced that he was choosing the Wildcats. The Westerville South prospect announced at the Superior Sports Showcase camp today. He had been planning this for a few weeks, and was able to overcome some bumps in the road to announce on schedule.
Long is a consensus 3-star player, with room to gain another during the Summer camp circuit. He held 13 scholarship offers but chose UK primarily over Louisville, Pittsburgh and Indiana. At 6’4” and 230 pounds he can provide a big target in the passing game and has excellent athleticism for someone that size. He may need some work when it comes to blocking. Long is rated the #22 tight end in the 2014 class by Rivals.
With the commitment, Kentucky adds another sought-after Ohio prospect. Long is close with the other UK commits from Ohio and surely their recruiting efforts helped Kentucky’s chances. Once again Vince Marrow is listed as Long’s primary recruiter. It helps that Marrow will also be his position coach. Considering UK’s roster for 2014 will only have two other tight ends on scholarship, Long will have every opportunity to play as a freshman.
