So far. we know a little about the Kentucky Wildcats 2013-2014 basketball schedule. UK will face #2 Michigan State in Chicago, North Carolina in Chapel Hill, and the Louisville Cardinals at Rupp Arena. Don’t forget about the Texas Stadium showdown versus the Baylor Bears and an early season match-up versus the Providence Friars at the Barclays Center. It’s a pretty solid out of conference schedule and look for more teams to be added.

Everyone wants a piece of number one and the Boise State Broncos want a piece of the action:

"Boise State has been in discussions with Kentucky to play a road game this fall against the Wildcats, a source close to the program told the Idaho Statesman on Friday. The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because a contract has not been finalized. When asked during a media briefing Thursday whether the Broncos were seeking to play a highly-ranked team on the road, Rice said, “We’re going to get one for sure.” Boise State Athletic Director Mark Coyle, hired in December 2011, was previously the deputy director of athletics at Kentucky, where he worked with the basketball program. Kentucky, the 2012 national champion, did not reach the NCAA Tournament this past season, but is already being mentioned as a favorite in 2014 after signing six of Rivals.com’s top 20 incoming recruits. The Broncos lose only one senior and return their top six scorers, making them a potential Top 25 and NCAA Tournament team. Rice noted that the November victory at then-No. 11 Creighton “was the gift that kept on giving” as the Broncos rode the tournament bubble and eventually made the NCAA field last month."

Speaking about the upcoming schedule, look for the Franciscian University Friars to be one of UK’s exhibition games next year. When discussing it, Calipari had some Robert Morris jokes:

"“The coach can play a couple of exhibition games, so we’re going to figure out when he can bring his team down to Rupp Arena,” Calipari stated, joking “we’re not coming here (referring to UK’s trip to Robert Morris as part of the 2013 NIT)."

Also in the course of his speech at Franciscian, Calipari also brought up the 40-0 talk once again:

"“My goal before I retire is to coach a 40-0 team because they say it can’t be done. As the season goes on, it gets harder and harder. But I say let’s do it, let’s do something crazy.” “My mom was a big dreamer. She always thought you could be whatever you want,” he said. “So dream beyond your surroundings, think beyond and dream beyond. Being the coach at Kentucky is an upset for me, I’m blessed to have this opportunity.” “As a coach, I try to get my players to understand we have to do it together. It’s not just about working hard, it’s about working together. You have to care more about the other guy than you do about yourself.”"

When working on a UK site such as this, you have to report on the bad as well as the good.  And so it seems, that the long, sad saga of former Unforgettable Richie Farmer may soon be reaching it’s conclusion.  For better or worse:

"A federal grand jury in Lexington will likely soon write the final, sad chapter in the troubled political career of a Kentucky legend. The grand jury is looking into the actions of former Agriculture Commissioner Richie Farmer, the University of Kentucky basketball fan favorite who just a few years ago looked like he was destined to turn his star power into a long, successful political career. It may have been a sense of entitlement that comes with an uncanny ability to put an orange ball through an 18-inch hoop from the time he was in middle school and then being the most beloved player on the state’s most celebrated college basketball team. It could have been that he just couldn’t tell right from wrong and didn’t have the people who would tell him when he was screwing up — or that he wouldn’t listen to them when they did. Whatever it was, Farmer’s wrongdoing has resulted in a record 42 findings of ethics violations against him, findings against employees and even a finding against his sister, Rhonda Monroe, who was placed on leave from her job at the Kentucky Registry of Election Finance pending the outcome of an internal investigation. Those violations could cost him $210,000."
