NBA Playoffs: Tayshaun Prince Thrilled to be back in Postseason

Former Wildcat All-American and current Memphis Grizzlies forward Tayshaun Prince was in the middle of his 11th NBA season this year with the Detroit Pistons, sitting well below the .500 mark and looking certain to miss the playoffs for the fourth-consecutive season. But then a midseason trade with the Grizzlies sent Prince from one of the worst teams in the NBA, to a team many have pegged as a darkhorse to make it to the NBA Western Conference Finals. At age 33, Prince has been through the fires of the NBA postseason, winning a championship with Detroit in the 2003-04 season, and he’ll provide the Grizllies with a level of veteran experience no one else on the roster can offer:

I’ve missed it big time. I’m excited to play at a high level once again. That’s what it’s all about. When you play 82 games (in the regular season), you want to get to the next level.

I’m happy for guys who have never experienced the playoffs, like Austin (Daye). All I can tell him is what a different type game it is, what a different type atmosphere it is. But you can’t show him unless you get there. I know he’s excited.
Memphis will open the playoffs in Los Angeles against the Clippers on Saturday night. During the regular-season, Prince averaged 10.4 points, 2.4 assists, and 4.4 rebounds per contest, but most NBA fans remember him for this game-saving block against future hall-of-famer Reggie Miller en route to helping Detroit win the title that year:
