The University of Kentucky certainly isn’t considered a “Football School”. Everyone knows about Kentucky basketball’s rich history, tradition, and how dominant the teams have been. The last few years have demonstrated why the football team has always taken a backseat to the basketball team. Over the recent years the basketball team has had dozens of All-Americans that dominated college basketball and went on to the NBA. However, the football team has been in a downward spiral.
Despite the disappointing seasons the football team has had, there have been some very talented players at Kentucky that have gone on to have success in the NFL. Such players include Randall Cobb, Wesley Woodyard, Stevie Johnson, Jacob Tamme, and multiple others. With that being said, UK certainly has the ability to produce NFL type players.
There are two UK players that stand out and are likely to be drafted in the upcoming 2013 NFL Draft. They are seniors Larry Warford and Matt Smith. Warford was an offensive guard for UK while Smith played center. Warford played in the 2013 Senior Bowl and several mock drafts predict him to be a second round pick. Smith is likely to be a late-round pick or free agent signee. Wide Receiver La’Rod King is expected to be drafted as well.
The 2013 NFL Draft will begin Thursday, April 25th at 8 p.m. ET
