Kentucky is loaded with All- Americans next season, and have been ranked #1 in every major preseason poll for next season. Kentucky will bring in 6 of the top 20 players, and could be 7 if Andrew Wiggins commits which would make Kentucky the best assembly of talent in the history of college basketball according to ESPN’s Chad Ford.
Although all that talent will be great to watch their may be one thing better for Kentucky fans, and that is watching Dominique Hawkins from Madison Central High School play for his “dream school” the Kentucky Wildcats. Hawkins has told everybody who asked that he is a huge Kentucky fan, and I can’t imagine how good he must feel after committing to Kentucky.
I have watched Hawkins 3 times this season, and I became more and more impressed with him game by game. Hawkins is a very strong, and explosive guard that I think could be a major player for Kentucky before his career in over. Kentucky coach John Calipari compared him recently to Eric Bledsoe who was also a very explosive guard in his own right.
It’s great to get all these All-Americans every year, but growing up in Kentucky that is every boys dream growing up is to play for the Wildcats. Hawkins will take advantage of his opportunity for playing for the blue and white, and will give everything he has to make his self, and his team better. I feel like this is the kind of player that could help this incoming group of amazing talent understand what “Kentucky Basketball” means to UK fans.
Once again for everybody who is worried this will have an effect on Andrew Wiggins stop worrying it doesn’t have anything to do with Wiggins. This is John Calipari, and his new recruiting style. He will get one player a year from now on I believe who will stick around for more than one year. Hawkins has already won over the Kentucky fan base with his love of the Kentucky Wildcats. I am extremely excited to see Hawkins play next season, and I expect him to give some very quality minutes this upcoming season.
