NCAA Baseball: No. 7 Kentucky Wildcats swept by No. 2 LSU Tigers

University of Kentucky’s Matt Reida

Today the No. 7 Kentucky Wildcats faced the No. 2 LSU Tigers in the final game of the series.  LSU had won the previous two games in the series by scores of 11-1 and 9-1.  The Tigers continued their dominance today as they swept the series on an 11-4 victory to improve to an incredible 30-2 on the season.

A poor first inning plagued the Wildcats in the final game of the series.  Although they scored one run, they allowed five and found themselves in an early hole.  Kentucky was able to score three more runs in the seventh inning, but by then it was too little, too late.  A.J. Reed had the three-run homerun in the seventh and UK also got hits from Lucas Witt, Micheal Thomas, Max Kuhn, Kyle Barrett, Matt Reida, Austin Cousino, and Zac Zellers.  This was Kentucky’s first series defeat of the year and their record is now 22-9 on the season.

The Wildcats will return to Lexington to play again on Tuesday, April 9th against Austin Peay at 6:30 p.m. ET.
