Junior (RS) – Small Forward
1.5 points per game
1.2 rebounds per game
Before the Season
2011-2012: Injury Redshirt
2010-2011: 0.8 points, 0.7 rebounds in 4.8 minutes per game
2009-2010: 1.2 points, 0.7 rebounds, 0.4 assists, in 4.4 minutes per game
Despite a lack of depth and the erratic/inconsistent play of the freshman ahead oh him in the rotation, Hood could never show Calipari enough that he was worthy of getting legitimate playing time. He only logged double-digit minutes in a game 5 times, and his season-highs were 6 points vs. Samford and 4 rebounds @ Arkansas.
SEASON GRADE: C-
For a player who was the Gatorade Player of the Year in Kentucky, as well as Mr. Basketball, it’s odd that Hood couldn’t crack the lineup even in one of the worst seasons Kentucky has endured since coming off of probation. Perhaps he wasn’t fully recovered from last summer’s ACL tear. Whatever the case may be, he needs to continue to live in the gym and work to show Cal that he can be the player so many thought he would eventually become in college.
It was released on Tuesday by the University of Kentucky and by Jon Hood that he will be returning to the Wildcats next season and that he will be under scholarship in his final season. He’ll likely be the 9th or 10th man off the bench next year, but will serve as a senior leader, something Kentucky hasn’t had a lot of in recent memory.
