Today two juggernauts of this men’s college basketball season clashed. The #1 seed Louisville Cardinals battled the #2 seed Duke Blue Devils in the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament. These teams met earlier in the season in a game that Duke ended up winning. That game was very close and showed how evenly matched they are. This game was no different. They each played spectacular offense in the first half by shooting over 40% from the field. Louisville only led by three points at halftime but lost sophomore guard Kevin Ware to an injury as well.
And then Louisville took over. Their aggressive play wore on Duke and made them fall apart. They played inspired by the injury to Kevin Ware and were scoring at will. Duke went on a streak where they didn’t score a field goal for over eight minutes, which also allowed Louisville to dominate the second half. Louisville shot an impressive 52% and held Duke to only 36%. Louisville had four players in double-digit scoring and were led by Russ Smith with 23 points. Duke had three players in double-digit scoring and were led by Mason Plumlee with 17 points and 12 rebounds.
Louisville advances to the Final Four of the tournament and will play #9 seed Wichita State on Saturday, April 6th.
