2013 NCAA Basketball Tournament: Wichita State Shockers 72 - La Salle Explorers 58

Tonight the #9 seed Wichita State Shockers played the #13 seed La Salle Explorers in the Sweet Sixteen on the NCAA Tournament.  Wichita State was able to get off to a quick start by making eight of their first ten shots, which built an early double-digit lead.  On the other hand, La Salle shot just 26% in the first half and didn’t play as aggressively as they had in their previous tournament games.  Wichita State also played a bigger lineup than La Salle and was able to dominate in the paint.  Wichita State didn’t end the half shooting very well but still went to halftime with a 16-point lead.

The excellent play continued in the second half for Wichita State as they came out and made two three-pointers in a row.  La Salle began the second half with a greater sense of urgency and was able to make a significant cut into the Shockers’ lead.  However, Wichita State absorbed the blow, battled back, and made La Salle’s efforts futile.  Wichita State had three players in double-digit scoring and were led by Malcolm Armstead with 18 points.  La Salle also had three players in double-digit scoring, led by Jerrell Wright and Tyrone Garland, each with 16 points.

Wichita State advances to the Elite Eight of the tournament and will play #2 seed Ohio State on Saturday, March 30th.
