Kentucky Wildcats Football: Practice Notes and Observations

Well this morning Jason and I had the opportunity to take in Kentucky’s 6th practice of the Spring. It was a blast watching the new coaching staff interact with the players and support staff. It was nice to see how excited the players got for various drills and plays made by teammates. I could go on and on, but I that could literally stretch on for a dozen pages. So here are my observations from practice.

  • Practice started with the same 1-on-1 drills we saw in last week’s videos, we couldn’t see the action because the players and coaches circled the drill but they were getting awfully hyped up for several matchups.
  • High Performance Coach is an intense guy. He never lets up, not even during stretches.
  • There isn’t an official depth chart but you could see trends emerging as practice went on. The QBs and offensive skill guys rotated more or less constantly with Smith, Towles and Whitlow getting the snaps. But the defense and offensive line seem to be in place thus far, besides missing Zach West.  The preliminary OL appears to be :

LG- Eatmon-Nared

RG Mitchell

RT Swindle

On defense the guys who seemed to take 1st team reps were:

DE-Za’Darius Smith

DT- Mister Cobble

DT-Tristian Johnson

DE- Bud Dupree

OLB-Kory Brown

MLB-Avery Williamson

OLB- Khalid Henderson

CB-Fred Tiller

CB-Cody Quinn

FS- Daron Blaylock

SS-Ashley Lowery
