Kentucky Wildcats Basketball: Archie Goodwin Report Card

Archie Goodwin has taken more heat from the media and fans than any one player I can remember since my days of watching Kentucky basketball. I remember at one point of the season a lot of people were hoping he would go pro after this season because of his decision making on the court. Although; in the last 10 games Archie was one of the few that looked like they really wanted to be on the floor, and was happy to wear a Kentucky jersey.

I will try to be as fair as I can on grading Archie Goodwin on the season, but let me remind everybody that he was my favorite player besides Noel on the team.

After some really hard thinking about the season as a whole I gave Archie a B- and I know some people may think that is a little high, but those are the people who don’t like his game one bit, and want him gone. This teams problem all year was playing hard, and fighting till the end of games. Thats one aspect of Archie’s game that nobody could question. He was always giving a 100% while on the floor, and would do anything to win the game, but the problem was some of his teammates didn’t do the same.

Archie is a NBA guard already in my opinion, and the reason I say that is because those NBA scouts love guys that attack the rim like he does. He gave us some of the best dunk saw all season, and his athleticism is off the charts.

Some things he needs to work if he comes back to school next season which I fully expect him to is just decision making, and playing under control. If he can do that, and with all the talent around him coming in next year he could actually improve his draft stock from a mid 1st round guy to a lottery pick.

Many people may disagree with my high grade of Archie, but looking at the season as a whole he gave us more than just about anybody on the team.
