2013 NCAA Basketball Tournament: Butler Bulldogs 68, Bucknell Bison 56

The Butler Bulldogs have defeated the Bucknell Bison in Rupp Arena with a final score of 68-56. Bucknell made a run at a comeback but it just wasn’t enough as the Bulldogs of Butler willed their way to win the game.

The Bulldogs advance to a Saturday matchup against the winner of this afternoon’s Marquette/Davidson match-up to complete the afternoon session in Lexington.

At halftime, it was a very low scoring game with Butler leading Bucknell with a 21-14 score.

With 10:56 remaining in the game this afternoon, the Bison went on a run to give them a 35-31 lead over Butler. Butler fought their way back in the game with back to back 3-pointers to retake the lead at 43-42.

Butler went on a 20-5 run after Rotnei Clarke’s two free throws. They were leading 51-42 with 2:48 to go in the contest. It was not a pretty game but the Bulldogs would go on to advance to play on Saturday.

In the last three NCAA Tournament appearances, Butler Coach Brad Stevens owns a 11-2 record with losses to Duke and UConn in the national championship games. Last season, the Bulldogs didn’t make the tournament and played in the College Basketball Invitational where they advanced to the semifinals.
