Inside The Numbers: Kentucky Wildcats vs. The Last Four In

As everyone in Big Blue Nation, my eyes were glued to CBS tonight to watch the NCAA Tournament Selection Show at 6 p.m. ET. I was impatiently waiting to see if the Kentucky Wildcats had done enough throughout the season to earn an at-large bid into the NCAA Tournament. I waited, and waited, and waited, and Kentucky’s name never showed up. So I then turned my attention towards the “Last Four In”. Those teams were Boise State, La Salle, Middle Tennessee State, and St. Mary’s. Now, I know that Kentucky’s body of work left alot to be desired this season, but those teams were really the “Last Four In”? I couldn’t believe it just based on the “eye test”, so I decided to do what I always do: look at the numbers. So I decided to compare Kentucky, the “Last Four In”, and Missouri (just to throw another SEC at-large team in there) statistically and here is what I found out:
