If fans need any reminder of how things have changed around the Kentucky football program, they need look no further than the program’s marketing. Football fans (those that are Kentucky fans but prefer football to other sports) have long lamented the lack of support the program got from UK Athletics in various forms, including marketing. The most football marketing that you saw were some billboards sporadically placed around the state (and famously on UL’s campus). Now we have a Super Bowl commercial ( I know it wasn’t national, don’t care.)
In 2013 we have seen a plethora of football-related videos that are well conceived and designed with exciting the fan base. Judging by Spring Game ticket sales and new subscriptions to UK football recruiting sites, it has certainly worked. There has reportedly been a nice jump in season ticket sales (including yours truly) but the university hasn’t released any numbers at this point. Here is a look at some of them.
One of the first videos to go viral was this recruiting video that featured highlights of former Wildcat greats and had plenty of fans ready to strap on a helmet and play for Coach Stoops:
Then of course is the infamous Super Bowl commercial that aired in local markets during halftime of the big game. That air raid siren may have been pulled straight from the Silent Hill movies, which is fitting considering the new offense and Stoops’ defensive prowess:
