NCAA College Basketball: Tennessee Volunteers 88 #25 Kentucky Wildcats 58

Apparently as Nerlens Noel goes, so do the Kentucky Wildcats. In their first game since losing Nerlens Noel for the season, Kentucky was thrashed by the Tennessee Volunteers. The game was tied at seven early, but Tennessee went on a 9-0 run and never looked back. The Vols led 50-26 at the half and the game ended up being the worst ever for a John Calipari coached team.  The game was also the biggest win ever for a Tennessee team over a Kentucky team.

Kentucky was led by Kyle Wiltjer  with 18 points and 6 rebounds.  Former walkon Jarrod Polson got a surprise start and scored 11 points and had 4 boards.  But this was a game of sheer domination for the Vols.  Tennessee out shot Kentucky 58%  to 35.8% , and outrebounded the Wildcats 33-20.   Tennessee was led by Trae Golden’s 24 points  as they snapped a six game losing streak to Kentucky.  The game drops UK to 17-8 on the year and 8-4 in the SEC.  While the loss was not a disaster to Kentucky’s NCAA hopes, you have to think they are on life support at this time, seeing how they played without Noel.  The Vols improved to 14-10 and evened their SEC mark at 6-6.
