Mark Stoops has worked hard to secure several commitments out of Florida, this one being from  defensive tackle/end Regie Meant, who held offers from Iowa State and Kansas State. He’s a 2-star recruit on and Rivals. At 6’5″ and 270 pounds, Mean has the ability to play every spot on the defensive line, and with UK needing bodies at both tackle and end, Meant was too good of a prospect for Stoops to pass on.

Don’t be fooled by his ranking or lack of bigger BCS offers. He just finished up his third year of organized football, as he didn’t begin playing until his sophomore year in high school. Based on the level of elite recruits Stoops has had on Kentucky’s campus recently, it’s safe to say he saw something really special in Meant.

ESPN Recruiting Profile

Meant is a D-Lineman who could develop into a real tough run defender. He comes across as a physically good looking kid with plenty of height and a frame that could still support more good mass with time in a college weight program. He moves around the D-Line, but if he plays in a defense that utilizes a four-man front he will likely be an interior player especially as he continues to physically develop. He has a solid get-off, but is not a consistent quick penetrating presence. He can though be a stout gap-control type defender. For a taller kid he demonstrates the ability to consistently fire out low and engage a blocker with hip roll on contact. He does a good job of consistently shooting his hands and displays the playing strength to extend and separate and is able to stand a blocker up and hold his ground with the ability to locate the ball and shed. Does a good job of coming across the ball and staying square and squeezing daylight and keeping himself in a position to play the ball. Displays a good motor with adequate range and short-area change-of-direction. Best at this stage as a run defender. With continued development could be productive with a bull rush and a power rip and can block throwing lanes with his height if he gets his hands up. Meant is not a dynamic presence, but he is a good sized kid who can play the run tough and as he continues to develop physically and as a player could become even a more stout presence in the trenches.
