Ryan Timmons’ recruitment has been a long and strenuous process, but it came to an end today as the Franklin County star chose to stay home and play for the Kentucky Wildcats. It was a tall order to keep Timmons in-state, as many elite BCS programs were offering scholarships, including Ohio State, Arkansas, Wisconsin, and Florida, but he ultimately chose to become a significant piece in the rebuilding of Kentucky football.
Timmons made his announcement at high school today, and was down to Florida, Ohio State, and UK. Of the three, UK offered him the best path to immediate playing time, and his abilities as a receiver, runningback, and return-man will make him a candidate to get significant playing time as a true freshman. Though Timmons is listed as a receiver, he has stated on multiple occasions he wants to play runningback at the collegiate level. In Neal Brown’s Air-Raid offense that requires backs to be able to catch passes on a consistent basis, he may get his wish.
