It’s been a flurry of activity for Mark Stoops this weekend as Kentucky has landed their third commitment of the weekend. This time, it is in the form of Offensive Lineman Nick Haynes from Niceville, Florida. Haynes is 6’4 and weighs 294. He gets a consensus *** across the board from all major ranking services, except for Scout, who rankes him as a ** Tight end.
Haynes is a relatively new name to Kentucky fans. He has been on the radar for about a week and a half and just visited Lexington this past weekend, which was enough to convince him to join Big Blue. Almost everything you read about Haynes refers to him as a stereotypical “late bloomer” having played basketball until two years ago. Rated as a 3* player (except by Scout, who apparently hasn’t updated their database since before the season) he is a sleeper who was drawing late interest from Florida State before pledging to the Wildcats. He has a high ceiling but would be best served by redshirting his freshman season. Again he has only been playing football for two years and he was a tight end, albeit a huge one, for one of them. He played tackle last as a senior but most of the recruiting services list him at guard and that will likely be his college position as well. While his offer list doesn’t wow you, keep in mind that UK let other linemen go elsewhere and chose Haynes.
