Kentucky Wildcats Football: Success in Florida Continues

With last night’s commitments from Jeff Badet and JoJo Kemp, Kentucky has a staggering eight commitments from Florida prospects committed in the 2013 class. This is a stark contrast compared to previous seasons in which UK was lucky to pick up a couple of the Sunshine State’s leftovers.  While they haven’t yet stolen a player from Florida State or the Gators, the Cats have swooped in and taken some great talent.

In this year’s Florida crop, Kentucky beat out nearly every BCS school for at least one prospect. Perhaps most satisfying for fans is the Wildcats winning in head to head battles with Louisville, which will become more common in Florida. And the fight isn’t over, by the time all is said and done half of Kentucky’s class could be from Retiree Land.

Offensive lineman Nick Haynes is visiting Lexington this weekend and could commit before he leaves. Linebacker James Hearns reportedly wants to be a Wildcat, if he can just get his grades in order. Quarterback Asiantii Woulard, seemed to have cooled on UK but rumor has it he might follow his fiends to Lexington. Without his brother shackled to his ankle, MacKensie Alexander could end up anywhere. It’s a longshot, but he was always more positive about the Cats than MacKenro. Tight End Travis Johnson has hit up Twitter to talk to the BBN. Kentucky is also trying to get in late with Taj Williams, Denver Kirkland, and Skai Moore. There were other prospects on the list that Kentucky stopped recruiting because they filled up at those positions.

To show just how big of a difference Stoops and his staff are making on Kentucky’s image in Florida, here are the Floridian signees from the last five recruiting classes. UK only signed 11 players from Florida total from 2008 through 2012.  Obviously the jury is still out on a few of the younger guys, Danny Trevathan is the only top contributor in the bunch.
